Linsey Covert, Founder and CEOTEAMology changes the status quo and extends the school’s support team by providing a whole-system solution that baselines, coaches, and produces actionable outcomes to strengthen a child’s mental wellbeing and mitigates issues using a proprietary triage approach. Through the use of technology, tools, and social-emotional learning (SEL) content, TEAMtalk is able to understand and support every student.
“Our vision is to provide a safe space for students to share their social, emotional, and mental health needs while also helping educators gain insight to the challenges their students face. Our MTSS-based proprietary triage approach supports students with real-time tips and strategies, enhancing their abilities to succeed in school, career, and life,” states Linsey Covert, founder and CEO of TEAMology.
Covert’s work began as a graduate student at Penn State University with her interest in learning more about the impact relationships and teamwork could have on student success. Covert’s work was validated while, as a licensed professional counselor (LPC), she witnessed countless students afraid to have an open conversation about their emotional needs with counselors. This led her to provide educators with the tools and framework to understand and connect with students to support them in their emotional wellbeing.
Covert’s 15 years of research and development established the foundation of TEAMtalk—a cloud-based student-facing platform—designed to triage the needs of students to get them help for their emotional challenges. TEAMtalk serves as a safe and supportive friend students can openly express their emotions to, and receive personalized research-based tips, strategies, and support.
These character-driven activities enable students to share their struggles and concerns in a comfortable and nonjudgmental environment. TEAMology’s six characters are also licensed and brought to life by the Pittsburgh PBS affiliate and Home of Fred Rogers, WQED, with television production using puppets created by Pittsburgh Puppet Works.
Combining the power of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and human intelligence, TEAMtalk gathers conversational and evidence-based assessments of a student’s emotional data in real-time and reports back to the educators about an individual student’s strengths, growth opportunities, and ways they can help increase the child’s social and emotional abilities. TEAMtalk also provides analytics for schoolwide wellbeing including trends over time. The platform takes a proactive approach by aligning to the Multi-Tiered System of Support (MTSS), a framework that enables educators to quickly intervene with targeted support for struggling students.
Integrating TEAMtalk’s SEL content into academics helps educators establish a healthy and harmonious community while effectively connecting with students and equipping them with lifelong tools to communicate their feelings and needs.![]()
Our MTSS-based proprietary triage approach supports students with real-time tips and strategies, enhancing their abilities to succeed in school, career, and life
A testament to TEAMtalk’s innovative SEL content is found in a case scenario where an elementary child engaged in the Ruby Resilience Screening to gauge her level of resilience, peer and adult support to make an outlook on her life. While engaging with the screening, the student reported suicidal ideation for most of the school year and a sense of urgency to end her life. Onboarding TEAMtalk’s novel conversational screener, provided the school a documented transcript, which was later delivered to the child’s advocate. This resulted in the school support team intervening immediately and giving the child the support needed.
With these successes, TEAMology is pioneering a new beginning of advanced SEL for the education sector. The company plans to launch their student-facing enterprise TEAMtalk platform at the beginning of 2023, providing check-in, assessment, and coaching services. TEAMology is committed to simplifying, strengthening, and supporting social, emotional, and mental wellbeing for all students.
