| | December - 20219Here at Third Space Learning (TSL), we recognised the potential of online tutoring platforms several years ago and currently work with over 1200 schools nationally. Our aim remains twofold: to support maths attainment of children across the board and to promote social equality by making 1:1 tuition accessible to all children that need it.Working in partnership with schools, our innovative online learning platform enables teachers to identify learning gaps as they arise in class and direct our online tutors to support those pupils who are falling behind. This is a tutoring solution designed for teachers, to align individual support with the class dynamic.This innovative approach to teaching and learning with its intuitive and intelligent system achieves two goals. The first being provision of a long-term solution that enables teachers to create the very best learning opportunities for every child, raising maths standards and closing attainment gaps. And secondly, supporting TSL tutors to deliver an enjoyable experience for every student, ensuring a consistently high-quality service that can be delivered on a large scale.The growing need for effective Edtech solutions in schools is further highlighted by the launch of the Government's National Tutoring programme. As one of the 32 companies that have been selected as approved providers of `catch up' tuition for pupils, there is significant demand from schools for our online solution. This is likely a consequence of schools having to limit `in person' visits from external contractors, including tutors, in order to comply with ongoing Covid restrictions.This is a real-life example of the flexibility that Edtech provides and the need for adaptive and innovative solutions; something that is now absolutely here for the long term.With increased implementation of digital learning across educational settings comes a greater need to ensure safeguarding and security across these platforms. Having worked with thousands of schools since 2013, we have designed and tested stringent safeguarding processes. The very token of `being online' has provided us with the opportunity to design systems that have a firm and transparent grip on safeguarding ­ via tutor profiling, recording and monitoring of all sessions, as well as managing data accessibility. Our approval by the NTP reflects our commitment to safeguarding and demonstrates that when managed and developed with great care, it need not be a barrier to Edtech innovation and online learning.Pre-pandemic, many educational institutions were already planning to increase their use of technology within their day-to day teaching. This is a need driven not just by budget but reflective of the increasingly technological world in which we are living and that students and teachers are growing up in. Demand for flexible learning options is growing further as the economy changes and people are needing to up and re-skill ­ again, something that's with us for the long term.In the past, Edtech has generally been viewed as a something which does not solve significant problems for teachers, school leaders or policy makers ­ therefore not warranting big budgets. With previous trends tending to focus on digitisation of assessment and content, although `useful', outcomes have not been systemic. However, accelerated by the impact of Covid-19, Edtech is now in the position to innovate in a different way. It must support the much bigger and intrinsic challenges facing the education sector, such as making quality teaching accessible to all pupils, transcending recruitment development budgets and distribution of teachers.This transformation can be likened to the online retail revolution over the past 20 years, where customer experience and the sector's economy have been completely transformed by the internet, yet still only a small percentage is done online (although greatly increased during the pandemic!). This is a trend we expect to see mirrored in education in the coming years,This is no `short term bubble' ­ it is a `Covid-19-induced' acceleration of a much longer-term trend and need, which will offer wide-reaching opportunities to the Edtech sector, investors, educators and students globally.
